Our Story

How it all started...

Rogers Chapel’s story began in 1929, led by Bro. L.B. Royal with the support of the Zip City community. At the time, Bro. Royal pastored Hines Mission, overseeing several churches. During discussions of building a church in Zip City, it was discovered that Mr. J.K. Hines had already donated 1.5 acres for a church and cemetery.

Following the tragic loss of his five-year-old son, Bro. Royal renewed his efforts, collecting pledges from the community to fund the church. Construction began in late 1929, with a Florence carpenter overseeing the project and local men helping. The church was dedicated on April 6, 1930, by Dr. W.P. McGlawn and named Rogers Chapel after Mr. Tom Rogers, Sr., in recognition of his generous contributions.

Expanding the vision...

Over the years, Rogers Chapel has grown, adding Sunday School rooms and making numerous improvements to the building. The church continues to serve the local community, with most members coming from the surrounding area. In addition to spiritual support, we actively engage in outreach, offering help to those in need. One of our key efforts is supporting Wilson School, where we minister in various ways as opportunities arise. Through these efforts, Rogers Chapel remains a vital part of the community, dedicated to both worship and service.

Where we are headed...

Bro. Ralph Mann has faithfully served as our pastor since 2011, guiding Rogers Chapel with devotion. In 2022, we proudly became part of the Global Methodist Church, aligning with its mission to spread God’s love and truth. As we move forward, Rogers Chapel remains committed to being a place where simple, hardworking people can gather to worship, grow in their faith, and serve the Lord. We are dedicated to continuing our outreach, supporting the community, and following God’s will. Our vision is to remain a beacon of hope and faith, ensuring that our legacy of worship and service endures for generations to come.
