A New Way

This exploration of the Beatitudes from Matthew 5 reveals a revolutionary understanding of blessing that turns our worldly expectations completely upside down. We discover that Jesus ascended a mountain—perhaps deliberately echoing Moses receiving the Ten Commandments—to deliver an even greater teaching about God's kingdom. What makes this message so radical is who Jesus declares blessed: the poor in spirit, those who mourn, the persecuted, the falsely accused. These aren't the powerful, wealthy, or influential people society celebrates. Instead, Jesus proclaims that God's kingdom belongs to those who recognize their brokenness and desperate need for salvation. The sermon challenges us to reconsider what true blessing means—it's not about our earthly possessions, positions, or accomplishments, but about our relationship with Jesus. When we confess our sins and believe in Him, we're no longer held at a distance or told we're not valuable enough. We're brought close, forgiven, redeemed, and given citizenship in God's household. But the blessing doesn't stop with us receiving it. Just as God blessed Abraham to be a blessing to the world, we too are called to extend these blessings to others, carrying forward this radical kingdom message.
